St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore: Moving Beyond Poverty
Since 1865, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore has served people in our community who, for whatever reason, are being pushed, pulled, swayed or dragged down by poverty. Our goal is to help each person, and our community as a whole, to move beyond poverty and achieve a better future for all.
150 years ago we were a pioneer in offering many of the first works of charity in the Baltimore area. Today, we continue to lead the way, exploring innovative ways to ensure:
- individuals and families can achieve and sustain permanent housing,
- children can access fresh and healthy foods,
- adults are prepared for a career that provides a living wage for their family, and
- children are prepared for a lifetime of learning, breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
We affirm the dignity of each individual, serving them with respect, compassion, and the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed.
Lives that some may feel are lost causes, are the very root of our cause. We offer them the opportunity to acquire the strength, confidence, motivation, and skills to achieve their full potential. We offer them the opportunity to improve their lives, moving beyond the cycle of poverty that is so challenging to escape. We offer them the opportunity to believe in themselves again, or perhaps for the first time ever. We offer them the opportunity for positive change.
