Derek Estes and Adam Hoffman, two early-career NNSA team members, were recognized for their innovation and leadership at a ceremony this week at which NNSA Principal Deputy Administrator Madelyn Creedon presented them with the 2016 Linton F. Brooks Medal for Dedication to Public Service.

“The drive and commitment of these two individuals in their work supporting NNSA’s vital missions reflect highly on their leadership, capability, and dedication to public service,” Creedon said. “Thank you to Derek and Adam for their outstanding contributions. We are proud to have them as part of the NNSA team.”

The Linton F. Brooks Medal for Public Service was established to recognize those employees whose actions and deeds serve to exemplify the spirit of leadership of former NNSA Administrator Linton F. Brooks. Recipients of the award must have less than five years of federal and professional experience.

Estes is a program analyst in the NNSA Office of Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation. He is receiving the award for designing and developing a statistical-based approach to compare and prioritize NNSA’s radiological/nuclear counterterrorism outreach efforts nationally and among partner countries, ensuring that U.S. efforts will deliver – on a relative basis – the biggest risk reduction values.

Hoffman is a general engineer in the NNSA Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation. He is receiving the award for his outstanding leadership in the NNSA Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the “Iran Deal”) Procurement Working Group’s development of export control protocols.
