The list below compiles and provides access to external databases. While the respective scopes of each of the databases are varied, all convey information relevant to wind and marine renewable energy. The list of databases is not exhaustive, and will be updated as needed. If you have comments on incorrect or missing content, please email jonathan.whiting@pnnl.gov with corrections.

4C Offshore Database Offshore Wind United Kingdom 4C Offshore is an international offshore wind farm database which contains locations, primary stakeholders, news, and port information for over a thousand offshore wind projects in 43 different countries. The database also contains an interactive map allowing the user to search for different offshore wind farms, proposed projects, major ports, wind speed, water depth, and more.
Atlantic Offshore Seabird Dataset Catalog Offshore Wind United States Driven by a need to adequately evaluate spatial and temporal distribution of avian species within the context of potential impacts from activities such as offshore wind development, the database brings together historical and contemporary datasets on avian distribution along the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf.
COWRIE Offshore Wind United Kingdom COWRIE (Collaborative Offshore Wind Research into the Environment) was set up by The Crown Estate as an independent body to carry out research into the impact of offshore wind farm development on the environment and wildlife. COWRIE evolved into a charity which gained global recognition for its scientific and educational work. COWRIE ended in 2009, but reports are still available.
EMODnet Human Activities Marine Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind Several This database includes the geographical position and spatial extent of a series of activities related to the sea, their temporal variation, time when data was provided, and attributes to indicate the intensity of each activity.
ESPIS Marine Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind United States The Environmental Studies Program Information System (ESPIS) provides access to completed Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) environmental studies reports. Technical summaries of over 700 BOEM-sponsored environmental research projects, as well as full pdf documents of over 2,000 research reports, are available for online full text search.
FERC eLibrary Marine Renewable Energy United States FERC's eLibrary maintains a record of all permit-related documents for sites under FERC's jurisdiction which includes all U.S. MHK projects. Users can conduct general searches or enter a specific docket number to search through the eLibrary. Note the eLibrary contains MHK filings, as well as conventional hydrokinetic project filings. Both hydrokinetic and MHK projects with FERC filings in the eLibrary are denoted by blue pins on the Tethys map.
Good Practice WIND Offshore Wind, Land-Based Wind Several The GP WIND project was set up to address barriers to the deployment of onshore and offshore wind energy generation. Barriers are addressed by recording and sharing good practice in reconciling renewable energy objectives with wider environmental objectives and actively involving communities in planning and implementation.
Hydrodynamic Testing Facilities Database Marine Renewable Energy United States This database couples a map-based viewer with a list of hydrodynamic testing facilities to provide data on a range of test capabilities and services available at commercial, academic, and government facilities and offshore berths within the United States.
LORC Knowledge Offshore Wind Denmark LORC Knowledge is an international offshore wind farm database that provides blade tip speeds, voltage levels, gearbox ratios, and hundreds of other details on wind farms across the world. They provide a searchable map, searchable lists, and statistics.
Marine and Hydrokinetic Technology Database Marine Renewable Energy United States The U.S. Department of Energy's Marine and Hydrokinetic Technology Database provides up-to-date information on marine and hydrokinetic renewable energy, both in the U.S. and around the world. The database includes wave, tidal, current, and ocean thermal energy, and contains information on the various energy conversion technologies, companies active in the field, and development of projects in the water.
Marine Cadastre Marine Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind United States Developed through a joint partnership between the U.S.'s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the Marine Cadastre is an integrated marine information system that provides ocean information such as energy potential, offshore boundaries, infrastructure, and biological data sets.
Marine Data Exchange Offshore Wind United Kingdom Source for the environmental data and information generated under the Crown Estate's second Licensing Round for offshore wind.

Northeast Ocean Data Portal Offshore Wind United States The Northeast Ocean Data website is a decision support and information system for managers, planners, scientists, and stakeholders involved in ocean planning in the region from the Gulf of Maine to Long Island Sound. It features a data viewer and easy-to-use interactive maps on topics such as aquaculture, energy, marine mammals, and maritime commerce.
OBIS-SEAMAP Marine Mammals, Sea Turtles, Birds United States Ocean Biogeographic Information System Spatial Ecological Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations (OBIS-SEAMAP) is a spatially referenced online database, aggregating marine mammal, seabird, and sea turtle observation data from across the globe.
Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition Marine Renewable Energy Several This Knowledge base provides information on the environmental, regulatory and socioeconomic ramifications of offshore renewable energy. Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition also provides current news and events regarding offshore renewable energy developments.
Offshore Center Danmark Offshore Wind Denmark The official knowledge center for the Danish offshore industry which collects global listings of offshore wind farms, oil & gas platforms, and more.
Offshore Wind Hub Offshore Wind United States The Offshore Wind Hub provides open access to documents related to offshore wind policy, technology, economics, and siting. The listings are currently up to date for all Atlantic Coast states from Maine to Maryland. Listings for other states and the federal government are not necessarily complete or up to date.
OpenEI Marine Renewable Energy United States OpenEI is a crowd-sourced database related to analysis on renewable energy and energy efficiency, in wiki format.
Renewable UK Offshore Wind, Land-Based Wind United Kingdom The official knowledge center for the UK renewable energy industry which collects statistics on renewable windfarms in the various stages of development in the UK.
The Wind Power Offshore Wind, Land-Based Wind France The Wind Power is a worldwide database about wind turbines and wind farms. It contains data related to wind farms, turbines, manufacturers, developers and operators.
SOWFIA Marine Renewable Energy Several The SOWFIA Project (Streamlining of Ocean Wave Farms Impact Assessment) has collected information on the Environmental Impact Assessment activities being carried out at a range of marine renewable energy test and research sites across Europe. The information has been input to the preliminary project-centred Data Management Platform (DMP) which facilitates instantaneous access to the information collected from diverse sources and enables complex enquiries to be carried out.
UKSeaMap 2010 Interactive Map Marine Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind United Kingdom This interactive map by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) contains a broadscale predicted seabed habitat map for the UK continental shelf and the data used in the modelling process.
Wave & Tidal Knowledge Network (WTKN) Marine Renewable Energy United Kingdom A broad collection of UK documents and data covering environmental impacts and consents, grid connection, and health and safety. The system is open access and much of the information is available to download immediately.
West Coast Ocean Data Portal Marine Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind United States The West Coast Ocean Data Portal is a project of the West Coast Governors Alliance on Ocean Health to increase discovery and connectivity of ocean and coastal data and people to better inform regional resource management, policy development, and ocean planning. The Portal informs priority West Coast ocean issues such as tracking sources and patterns of marine debris, adaptation to sea-level rise, understanding impacts of ocean acidification on our coasts, and marine planning.

The database contains research related to the onshore and offshore wind developments from around the world, including documents from journal articles, conference proceedings, government publications, books, and utility company reports.
