Roxie Laybourne

  • Roxie Laybourne is happiest when ‘she’s doing her feathers.’ She has worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service for four decades, the foremost expert in the identification of birds using feathers and other parts. For many years Fish and Wildlife Service Law Enforcement personnel have relied on her unmatched expertise. Besides identification work, she has also conducted extensive research to assist her in identification projects. She also has worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration, helping them investigate bird strikes to aircraft. Despite her retirement from the Service, she has continued to work at the Smithsonian, doing identification work, and passing on her knowledge to new generations.
