Luther Goldman, brother of Edward A. Goldman was a pioneer of waterfowl surveys in both Canada and Mexico. He was the first Pacific Flyway biologist.
Goldman learned early on the difficulties of traveling the back roads of these rural countries, often an arduous and time consuming task. Perhaps in partial response to this, he may have been the first Biological Survey biologist to use aircraft to assess waterfowl populations in Canada.
In a personal letter to the Chief of the Biological Survey, he remarked: ‘Skiing down a steep mountainside is the sport of kings, but flying over that magnificent picture beyond the edge of bush country is a fit diversion for the Gods’.”
