My Father Johnnie A. Johnson was a field supervisor & we lived on the Sacramento NWR from 1958 to 1979. He did the Swan & snow goose silhouette signs he was awarded recognition & he, so I'm told had a bird photo featured on cover of Life magazine for 1957. He passed on in 1995. This Web site is unique on featuring news from all of the refuges. My dad would be proud if he had lived to see the power of on line. Thank you.

Tomorrow the Hopper Mountain Wildlife Refuge 100 year old house, 3 outbuildings, 2 trailers, and 1 barn will be demolished and 2 new buildings costing ~$800k will take their place. Pieces of history will be taken to the landfill. So many biologists, interns, volunteers, and family have slept beneath those same walls. It was so special and magical.
The new buildings are a waste of money and a waste of resources, unnecessary as the ranch house operates exactly as it should, the...re is room elsewhere to place a new barn, and it was a similar cost to renovate.
There has been a complete disregard for it's importance to others.
Like the unfaithful tearing down a sacred temple while people inside still pray. This will never be forgiven.
Shame on you US Fish and Wildlife Service and Region 8.

I work for a company who exports from Mexico into the US boots and belts of Ring Lizards or better known as Varanus Salvator which is endagerend especies. The company which I work even has permits as the mexican CITES which I have to register as an import into the US to Fish and Wild Life Services. And I have to do this every week!!! I cant do it any more I love animals and I would like US FWS to put an end to this and do something!! Please help me stop the company I work for and many others from doinfg this!! If you need any information from my part please ask me!! Im here to help my planet and all the animals that live in it which they have not done anything for us to kill them and wear them as damm boots!!!! US FWS please check this CITES "MX47591 or MX69042" WHY DO YOU LET THEM!!!???
