WATER

Access to clean water is essential to human health and to Montana’s economy. We support and implement measures to conserve this valuable resource and ensure clean lakes, streams, and rivers remain part of Montana’s natural heritage.

Water Quality Circulars by Program

These Circulars describe standards and best practices for a variety of water projects and facilities. Projects and facilities may range from developing a spring for individual use to design standards for a community wastewater facility, technical standards for concentrated animal feeding operations to standards for hauled water cisterns. These Circulars describe the standards and practices and assist individuals and communities in meeting them.

Ruby River Channel Restoration

An 1,800-foot reach of the Ruby River on the Miller Ranch near Alder was restored in 2015 with partial funding through DEQ's nonpoint source pollution reduction program. Using federal Clean Water Act funding, we contributed $18,700 for the engineered design and $104,500 for channel construction, corral relocation, and other activities. Water quality is improved through cooler temperatures, reduced nutrients, and less sediment. Miller Recreational Development Company produced this video and has offered permission to share it.
