For College Students

Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program. The Office of Fossil Energy offers summer internships for students who are pursuing degrees in science, technology (IT), engineering, or mathematics (STEM majors). 

Research Experience in Carbon Sequestration. The intensive 10-day, interactive program combines classroom instruction with group exercises, CCUS site visits and hands-on field activities that cover the range of science, technology, policy and business topics associated with CCUS deployment. 

For Younger Students

Online Energy Lessons. Fossil fuels are both the fuels of our past and fuels for the future. In this series of interactive energy lessons, students can learn about the history of fossil fuels and their future potential. 

For Teachers and Parents

Study Guides and Classroom Activities. The Office of Fossil Energy created study guides and classroom activities emphasizing the importance of coal, natural gas, and petroleum to our everyday lives.

CCUS Training Workshops. The Office of Fossil Energy, through the USEA and the National Energy Education Development Project, offers teacher workshops to high school and middle school teachers on the science of energy and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology.

University Research Grant Opportunities

Research Grants for University Coal Research and for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. For students and professors interested in coal and other fossil fuel research, there are research opportunities available.
