The Housing Authority of the City and County of Denver is a quasi-municipal corporation with a portfolio of over 11,000 units and housing choice vouchers, providing affordable housing to more than 26,000 very low, low and middle income individuals representing over 10,000 families. DHA has transformed public housing in Denver creating vibrant, revitalized, sustainable, transit oriented, and mixed-income communities of choice. Today, DHA's vision is honed to reflect the goal that every individual or family shall have quality and affordable housing, in communities offering empowerment, economic opportunity, and a vibrant living environment.

DHA will achieve the goals of the Better Buildings Challenge through investment in energy conservation measures, renewable energy, and other innovated methods. Current efforts in reducing energy intensity include: new construction of LEED^® Gold and LEED Platinum multifamily developments with energy reductions equivalent to 50% below ASHRAE 90.1-2004 level standards; installation of a 2.5 MW photo voltaic system across DHA's portfolio; retrofitting over 2,700 existing properties through a recently completed self-performed energy performance contract (EPC); and, modernization of existing properties with energy conservation (i.e., Enterprise Green Communities criteria) design principles. In addition, DHA plans to invest in programs focused on resident engagement, and operations and maintenance programs focused around energy conservation.
