Lynne Richter
Geologist, Resource Conservation,
Office of Production and Development,
BSEE Gulf of Mexico OCS Region

  1. Who is Lynne Richter? I am a geologist for the Resource Conservation Section in the Office of Production and Development for BSEE in the Gulf of Mexico Region. Previously, I worked as a geologist in the petroleum industry for 20 years and then left the industry to care for my children at home. In 2012 I rejoined the workforce as a Geologist in the Resource Conservation team.
  2. Why were you interested in joining BSEE? Initially I joined BSEE to get back into the workforce to utilize the same skill set that I learned and enjoyed while working in the petroleum industry. My position at BSEE has grown such that I know have a greater sense of being connected to my country, and Federal service employment in the public interest is very fulfilling work. My experiences at BSEE have added a dimension of job satisfaction that I did not anticipate.
  3. What do you do now at BSEE? I evaluate production applications from industry for federal offshore leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Using geoscience techniques, I work with engineers to assess proper conservation and development of petroleum reserves. We review certain production procedures utilized by the producer to reduce waste or the ruin of a petroleum reservoir.
  4. Who was your greatest inspiration? My mother was my greatest inspiration. She was a mother of six and an artist. Her enthusiasm, curiosity and energy for learning new things gave me a feeling that I could do anything I was interested in. My father helped me learn to do things I wasn’t interested in, without complaint. This was also very good and sometimes necessary! If my mother thought she needed to improve something about herself, she would pursue it. If it was broken, she would fix it.
