Battelle Community Involvement

  • Invested nearly $520,000 in area philanthropic and civic organizations (FY2016)
  • Since 1965, Battelle has invested more than $26 million to improve science, education and quality of life in the Tri-Cities, Wash. community
  • Invested $71,000 (FY2016) in Richland, Wash. Delta High School, a STEM- (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) focused school; total estimated support since 2007, including cash and in-kind support, is estimated at $4.5 million
  • Through Team Battelle, our staff volunteer program, employees volunteered 45,741 hours for 66 local organizations in (FY2016)
  • Over the past ten years, PNNL staff have volunteered more than 279,626 hours to community projects

  • Since 1994, completed about 1,250 technology assistance projects with approximately 69% of them supporting Washington-based companies, resulting in product or service improvements and increased revenues for these companies

Economic Impact

In addition to its scientific and technological advances, PNNL and its operator, Battelle, are also one of Washington state's most important economic contributors. The Economic Impact of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on the State of Washington in Fiscal Year 2015 report lists several economic indicators including: PNNL's funding and total spending, jobs, wages, purchased goods and services, health care, visitor spending, spinoff companies, STEM support and corporate charitable contributions, as well as the economic impact of PNNL operations.
