Atlantic Wind Connection

On May 1, 2013, Atlantic Grid Holdings LLC (AGH) submitted a supplement to their application for the “Atlantic Wind Connection.” The supplement updates the project application filed August 10, 2011, in which the company proposes to build an offshore high voltage direct current transmission system offshore New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia that would interconnect offshore wind generation to the onshore grid.

On June 2, 2014, AGH informed BOEM of a scaled back project titled the New Jersey Energy Link that consists of the installation of point-to-point transmission system off New Jersey that does not interconnect BOEM wind energy areas and does not support the production, transmission, or transportation of energy from sources other than oil and gas. On December 22, 2014, BOEM suspended the ROW application process and informed AGH that the project proposed no longer falls under BOEM’s jurisdiction and does not require an OCS lease, easement or ROW grant pursuant to subsection 8(p) of the OCS Lands Act.

If future phases of the project move forward that support the production, transmission, or transportation of energy from sources other than oil and gas, the renewable energy regulatory process will be reinitiated pursuant to 30 CFR Part 585.
