Federal Register Notices
NOAA Fisheries is a federal regulatory agency. That means we make and implement regulations based on the laws and policies passed by Congress under which the agency operates. The major laws with which the West Coast Region works are the:
- Endangered Species Act (ESA)
- Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation & Management Act (MSA)
- Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA)
The Federal Register is a legal newspaper published every business day by the National Archives and Records Administration. It's the official daily publication for federal agency regulations, proposed rules and notices, executive orders, proclamations, and other presidential documents. The Federal Register is updated daily by 6 a.m. Eastern time, and is published Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.
The West Coast Region's regulatory activities are published in the Federal Register.
