Subscribe to Messages

We encourage the public to subscribe to notifications of tsunami messages sent by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. To determine whether you should subscribe to alerts from PTWC or WCATWC, please refer to our page describing the areas of responsibility served by each tunami warning center.



Email

PTWC's international tsunami messages are available via email from ITIC. NOAA does not provide a public email subscription option for Hawaii messages at this time, but residents of Honolulu and Hawaii counties can sign up for email and/or SMS alerts via the Nixle service. Maui County Civil Defense offers its own email subscription service for Maui County residents. In addition, the Pacific Disaster Center offers DisasterAWARE applications that can provide notification. Note that the previously available GovDelivery email and SMS service will cease operation on 31 July 2013.

Another related option is the USGS Earthquake Notification Service (ENS), which allows users to receive custom automated earthquake alerts via email or SMS. More email subscription options from third parties are listed on the NWS Subscribe page.



SMS (text messages)

PTWC's international tsunami messages are available via SMS (text message) on mobile phones through RANET for emergency managers in select Pacific, Asian, and African countries. NOAA does not provide a public SMS subscription option for Hawaii messages at this time, but residents of Honolulu and Hawaii counties can sign up for email and/or SMS alerts via the Nixle service. Note that there are also various RSS-to-SMS and Email-to-SMS services on the Internet that allow users to receive SMS alerts from RSS feeds or emails. Note that the previously available GovDelivery email and SMS service will cease operation on 31 July 2013.

RSS

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way for you to be alerted when content that interests you appears on your favorite websites. Instead of visiting a website to browse for new articles and features, RSS automatically notifies you when something new is posted online through your news reader of choice. PTWC offers three RSS feeds:
