Abstract:
This data set contains point locations for oil and gas platforms (structures)
located in the Gulf of Mexico federal waters. Note: Platforms are
being added or modified continuously; obtaining updates of this database are
required to know the true distribution of platform data.
Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize
coordinates, these GIS files are considered to be approximate and are NOT an
OFFICIAL record.
Purpose:
The oil and gas installation data is used for reference in maps showing coastal features in the Gulf of Mexico. Current active platforms for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Gulf of Mexico OCS Region; data is updated and posted on the website on a monthly basis, typically on the first of each month.

Cadastre data is available at
http://www.boem.gov/Oil-and-Gas-Energy-Program/Mapping-and-Data/Index.aspx.
These data include Official Protraction Diagrams (OPDs),
and Supplemental Official OCS Block Diagrams (SOBDs) in pdf format, and digital
spatial data in ArcGIS shapefile format.
