• Starting in 2009, the BOEM revised its classification system to conform to the Petroleum Resource Management System (SPE-PRMS) sponsored by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the World Petroleum Council, and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers. Please refer to the Background section of the Estimated Oil and Gas Reserves Gulf of Mexico OCS Region December 31, 2008 for more information (see OCS Report BOEM 2012-103).
• In May 2003, a revised Biostratigraphic Chart of the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Region was published (see Biostratigraphic Chart of the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Region, Jurassic to Quaternary). In the sand tables available for download, the 2003sands and older files use the "Old" chronozones only. The 2004sands file presents both the "Old" chronozones (in a column named OLD_CHRONOZONE) and the "Current" chronozones (in the column named CHRONOZONE) in order to facilitate your transition to the new chronozones. Starting with the 2005sands files, only the "Current" chronozones (in the column named CHRONOZONE) is present.
• Please note that the sand sequence number included in the sand-level files is a unique identifier assigned to each assessed sand, and some of the non-assessed sands, to enable the user to track a sand from year to year regardless of changes (such as sand name, field, play, etc.) made to the sand.
