Fragile Soil Index Webinar

Fragile soils are those that are most vulnerable to degradation. They are easily degraded and have a high susceptibility to erosion. A draft fragile index was developed as an interpretation in NASIS.

Newest WSS (3.2) Online

The hugely popular Web Soil Survey (WSS) website recently released its latest version-- 3.2. WSS has attracted a wide array of online visitors from all over the world and now averages 7,000 users a day!

KSSL Reaches Milestone in Number of Samples

In 2001, the Kellogg Soil Survey Laboratory brought online a laboratory information management system (LIMS).  Just recently, KSSL Senior Analyst Michelle Etmund applied LIMS label number 250,000 to a soil sample, providing an opportunity to highlight KSSL achievements while using LIMS.

New Look for OSD/SC Pages

The Official Soil Series Descriptions (OSD) and Soil Series Classification Database (SC) webpages were updated on June 23.  Take a look and remember to update any bookmarks!

Spanish Keys to Soil Taxonomy

The 2014 version of the Keys to Soil Taxonomy has been translated into Spanish and is now available! The translation will expand the horizons of U.S. Soil Taxonomy by allowing professionals in all parts of the world to apply and interpret the system in a more uniform and consistent way.
