Overview: 

Ryan is the primary system administrator responsible for EMSL's long-term scientific data archive. In January 2002, he was hired to assist with developing a cutting-edge, multi-terabyte archival system. He has since guided archive operations and upgrades through multiple iterations of technology. EMSL's fifth generation archive, "Aurora," was installed in FY2010. Aurora is a 15.7 petabyte Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) system running High-Performance Storage Systems (HPSS). Ryan is the Cognizant Space Manager (CSM) of the Molecular Science Computing (MSC) laboratory space and is responsible for allocations of physical floor space, power and cooling, implementing data center best practices and ensuring the safety and security of visitors, staff and DOE capital investments. Ryan is a member of PNNL's Open Source Working Group and facilitates Open Source Software releases for MSC. Before coming to EMSL, Ryan managed web development processes for Lamb-Weston’s corporate offices in Kennewick, Washington and Boise, Idaho. He also administered Information Technology investments and performed process control work and other general IT tasks at their Richland Research and Development laboratory and adjacent food processing plant.
