Products

In support of the Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program, the National Water and Climate Center produces a wide range of products, such as reports, maps, graphs, and datasets. The system that produces these products is known as the Water and Climate Information System (WCIS). In addition to using data collected at automated SNOTEL and SCAN stations and manual data collection sites, WCIS also uses snowpack, precipitation, streamflow and reservoir data from the U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), the Applied Climate Information System (ACIS), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other entities.

Water Supply Forecasts

The Water Supply Forecasts page contains reports, maps, and graphs to assist in forecasting and managing the water supply for the western United States.

Snow Telemetry (SNOTEL) and Snow Courses

The SNOTEL and Snow Course Data and Products page provides access to data and reports derived from snow survey sites and snow courses located in the western United States and Canada.  Here you'll find state- and site-specific data, maps, and graphs showing snow water equivalent (SWE), snow depth, precipitation, temperature, and other climatic elements in hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly increments.  These products are used for forecasting and management of water supplies.

Soil Climate Analysis Network (SCAN)

The Soil Climate Analysis Network Data and Products page provides access to data and reports derived from SCAN sites located across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. SCAN sites are automated, remote sites which collect soil moisture and soil temperature data along with precipitation, wind, and solar radiation data. These data are used for the management and prediction of climatic issues affecting our natural resources.

Climate Support

The Climate Support products include Agricultural Applied Climate Information System (AgACIS) data for wetlands determination, temperature and precipitation summaries, frost-free days, and growing seasons.  Access to PRISM Climate Group data is provided, along with links to soil moisture and wind rose resources.

Map Products

The National Water and Climate Center supports an Interactive Map which provides easy navigation to NRCS and other network monitoring stations. The map displays current and historical conditions for SWE, snow depth, precipitation, streamflow, and reservoir storage.

In addition, the Map Products page offers a suite of maps displaying variables such as SWE, snow depth, snow density, precipitation, and temperature.  Maps are generated at a variety of scales for the western United States using SNOTEL, snow course, and ACIS data.
