Research Reserve Became State’s First 100% Solar-Powered Nonprofit

The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve’s one ground-mounted and three rooftop arrays are generating 73,000 kilowatt hours and offset 90,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year. Along with the efforts of local partners, NOAA’s investment in the solar infrastructure enabled the Wells Reserve to meet its sustainability goal two years ahead of schedule and position the reserve as a place-based partner, model, and leader in energy independence.
