Applegate Hydroelectric Dam

Rogue River Basin; Applegate River, Jackson County, Oregon

Project Profile

This is a proposed hydropower retrofit to an Army Corps of Engineers flood control dam. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has started a reintroduction program for steelhead and listed SONC Coho upstream of the dam which will open approximately 35-80 miles of spawning and rearing habitat above the dam.  The proposed project was required to include downstream fish passage facilities (an existing COE trap provides upstream passage).

The hydropower facility would divert water released for flood control purposes and pass it through hydroelectric turbines. The proposed design includes a new multilevel intake tower (in addition to an already an existing COE intake tower) at the upstream face of the dam to provide water to the facility. The water would then pass through penstocks to a powerhouse at the base of the dam.
