About
Andrew Hoell is a research meteorologist at the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory in the Physical Sciences Division located in Boulder, CO. Andy researches the causal mechanisms of regional climate variability and focuses on the attribution of extreme events like floods and droughts on time scales of months to decades. A primary objective of AndyâÃÂÃÂs work is to better understand the sensitivity of regional climates to changing sea surface temperature patterns. AndyâÃÂÃÂs current regional foci include the United States, Africa and Western Asia. Andy works closely with the Famine Early Warning Systems Network by providing climate outlooks, assessments and forecast interpretations over Africa, Western Asia and Central America and the Caribbean.
Andy was a research scientist at the University of California Santa Barbara prior to joining NOAA. Andy earned his PhD from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2012.
