  Things That Go Bump in the Night

  On October 29, 2016, Bureau of Reclamation conducted an evening program called “Things That Go Bump in the Night.” With Halloween just around the corner from the time of the hike, staff at New Melones Lake wanted to share a short journey of the nocturnal world around the lake with visitors.   ‘C.A.S.T. for Kids’ anglers reel in fun, fish, trophies at annual event

  “I was hoping to catch a fish which I did but I also caught a turtle. I was so excited because they said that was the only turtle ever caught at CAST. Thank you!” said Suzanne.
  
  “I had so much fun and I got to go on my first boat ride. It was a neat day,” Donald remarked. “My captain really taught me how to catch the big ones. I'm going fishing again soon with my new pole. Thank you everyone at CAST,” Robert added.
  
  “I really liked being on the water. Everyone was so nice and the food was yummy!” Christie exclaimed.
  
  “This was my first time, but it was fun!” commented Angel.

  Reclamation’s First AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer

  “With the first rays of morning light, New Mexico’s Upper Chama watershed reveals itself. The valley extends south from Cumbres Pass, winding its way over ridgelines and through meadows. Dropping in elevation, forests of mixed conifer slowly change to tall Ponderosa Pines and then rolling plains of juniper and grasslands. Twenty-six miles to the south lie the cliffs overlooking Heron Reservoir, a resting place for supplemental water on its way to the homes, farms and people of central New Mexico, as well as El Vado Reservoir, which provides water for irrigated agriculture in the Middle Rio Grande valley.   Bridges Have Fallen at the 49th Annual Colorado High School Bridge Building Competition

  Many wooden bridges were destroyed today at the Denver Federal Center, but it was for a good cause. High school students from throughout Colorado descended on the Bureau of Reclamation's lab to test the strength of their bridges at the 49th Annual Colorado High School Bridge Building Competition.
