| Course Title | Survey Methods for Frog Abnormalities on National Wildlife Refuges |
| Description | The self-study course is designed for field technicians and biologists who are sampling wetlands to determine the percentage of abnormal frogs, primarily at USFWS National Wildlife Refuges. The purpose of this training is to provide instruction on the proper survey methods, handling techniques, and data gathering protocols for surveying frogs and toads. Principles can apply for more general amphibian surveys at any location. The training includes materials available at a weblink: Course/Reference Manual, the USGS Field Guide to Malformations of Frogs and Toads and Video. The video demonstrates field survey, sample handling, and shipping techniques and describes use of the field forms provided in the manual.
Objectives:
- Be able to describe the phenomena of frog malformations and abnormalities.
- Be able to use standard procedures for malformed frog surveys and properly use given field forms for data collection.
- Be able to collect and handle samples and properly ship to diagnostic laboratory.
Target Audience: Anyone participating in the design, planning, or field investigation for frog abnormality surveys will be interested in this training. Although the training focuses on survey protocols developed for the National Wildlife Refuge System, the principles may be useful anywhere.
To complete this course, you will need to take a final exam and receive a score of at least 80%. |
