NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – The Navy League of the United States hosted the 51st Annual Sea-Air-Space “Global Maritime Expo," at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. May 16-18.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John M. Richardson spoke during the Service Chiefs’ update panel on the first day and talked about the importance of events like the Sea-Air-Space Exposition for industry leaders to come together with Navy leadership.

The Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition was founded in 1965 as a means to bring the U.S. defense industrial base, private-sector U.S. companies and key military decision-makers together for an annual innovative, educational, professional and maritime-based event located in the heart of Washington DC.

Sea-Air-Space is now the largest maritime exposition in the U.S. and continues as an invaluable extension of the Navy League’s mission of maritime policy education and sea service support.

Rear Adm. Matthew J. Kohler, Commander, Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) spoke to a group of more than 100 on May 17, as one of several Information Warfare (IW) Pavilion featured speakers. IW Flag Officers were also prominent in several Sea-Air-Space exposition panels.

Kohler started the discussion by explaining the significance of IW in the Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority released several months ago by the CNO, as well as NAVIFOR’s roll in the design.

“NAVIFOR has matured significantly as a TYCOM over the past 18 months and is moving out on several key initiatives that support the design; specifically the task to further advance and ingrain IW into Navy warfighting” said Kohler.

More than 300 interactive exhibits displayed their products to an estimated 12,000 attendees showcasing the latest in maritime, defense and energy technologies were featured. The event offered attendees the chance to network and attend seminars, and it provided a professional development platform for educating Sailors of all ranks on the latest developments in Naval Warfare.

Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter spoke at the 2016 Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition during a luncheon held at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort and Convention Center May 17.

The Navy League's Sea-Air-Space Exposition was three days of seminars and demonstrations highlighting the latest maritime-related technologies and solutions. The symposium provided an excellent opportunity for Navy policy and operational leadership to interact with industry representatives to discuss and debate common interests and concerns.

NAVIFOR’ s mission is to support operational commanders ashore and afloat by providing combat-ready Information Warfare forces that are fully trained, properly manned, and capably equipped.
