This manual implements the policy in DoD Directive (DoDD) 8000.01 in accordance with the authority in DoDD 5144.1, assigns responsibilities, and provides procedures for the implementation of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as codified in section 794d of title 29, United States Code, referred to as "Section 508." It also provides a listing of websites containing laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines for ensuring that electronic and information technology is developed, procured, maintained, and used by the Department of Defense to allow persons with disabilities access to information comparable to that afforded persons without disabilities.
