The Navy Marine Corps Portal (NMCP) Environment Strategy has been released, directing the consolidation of the Department of the Navy's portal and web services into an integrated and centrally governed environment. This effort is critical to enhancing an effective security posture and to ensure mission effectiveness, cost savings, interoperability and ease of use.

The "Department of the Navy Navy Marine Corps Portal Environment Strategy" establishes the vision, goal, objectives and governance to be used to create the framework and enable the DON to take the necessary steps required to migrate DON organizations to the NMCP environment.

Additionally, a DON NMCP Environment Working Group will be established to document all portal requirements and develop portal migration plans. The working group will review all portal requirements and existing capabilities to identify duplicative efforts, excess capacity and cost-savings opportunities. The working group will also establish a review and approval process to ensure new requirements and efforts are aligned with the DON NMCP environment strategy.

The Dec. 3, 2010, Under Secretary of the Navy memo, "Department of the Navy (DON) Information Technology (IT)/Cyberspace Efficiency Initiatives and Realignment" and the Dec. 20, 2010, DON CIO memo, "Department of the Navy (DON) Information Technology (IT)/Cyberspace Efficiency Initiatives and Realignment Tasking" directed the DON to leverage the Department of Defense IT consolidation efforts to develop the NMCP strategy and an aggressive migration plan.
