Mission

Joint Functional Component Command for Space (JFCC Space) headquarters is located at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. Established in July 2006, JFCC Space is a component of U.S. Strategic Command and is responsible for executing continuous, integrated space operations to deliver theater and global effects in support of national and combatant commander objectives. JFCC Space coordinates space operational-level planning, integration, and coordination to ensure unity of effort in support of military and national security operations, and support to civil authorities.

Background

JFCC Space is comprised of four operations centers in addition to the headquarters staff. The Joint Space Operations Center (JSpOC), also located at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., provides operational command and control of worldwide joint space forces and enables the JFCC Space commander to integrate space power into global military operations. The Joint Interagency Combined Space Operations Center (JICSpOC), located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo., is a space defense operations center which leverages unity of effort between interagency and Intelligence Community partners to protect and defend critical space capabilities from terrestrially-based and co-orbital counter-space threats. The Joint Navigation Warfare Center (JNWC), located at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., enables space-based positioning, navigation, and timing superiority for the Department of Defense and interagency coalition partners. The Missile Warning Center (MWC), located at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Colo., coordinates, plans, and executes world-wide missile, nuclear detonation and space re-entry event detection to provide timely, accurate and unambiguous strategic warning in support of the United States and Canada.

Current Operations

JFCC Space conducts space operational-level planning, integration, and coordination with other USSTRATCOM joint functional components, other combatant commanders through their space coordinating authority (SCA), and other Department of Defense (DoD) partners, and when directed, non-DoD partners to ensure unity of effort in support of military operations, national security operations, and support to civil authorities.

Personnel

JFCC Space is authorized 240 billets.

Budget
