MARSOC Navy Corpsman Receives Silver Star — Petty Officer 1st Class Kevin D. Baskin, a special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman with 3rd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his heroic actions while deployed to Afghanistan in 2013.

Navy Scientists Develop Prototype for Diver Life Support — Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City (NSWC PC) scientists have developed a prototype for a new life support system for divers the Navy announced March 19. The goal of the new system is to accelerate the deployment of Navy divers, increase safety, and also conserve helium, a valuable natural resource.

"NISE" Funds Support Weapon Systems Integration for New Surface Warfare Capability — Navy officials — confident a new technological capability tested on the Potomac River Test Range will transform surface warfare — are looking ahead to its future impact in the fleet.

New 3D-Simulator Generates Training, Expertise on Subs — A new diesel generator simulator has been delivered to Pearl Harbor naval facilities by the TechSolutions program at the Office of Naval Research (ONR), officials at ONR announced March 18. High-fidelity 3D software will allow Sailors to use 50-inch touch screens to see and access all parts of the massive generators aboard Virginia-class subs.

U.S. Naval Test Pilot School Celebrates 70 Years — More than 300 staff, students and graduate "Testers" of U.S. Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) celebrated 70 years since the school was established at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River March 12. One of four major test pilot schools in the world, USNTPS has trained many distinguished Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force and international aviators and engineers, including 87 U.S. astronauts.

USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) Arrives in Sasebo for First-ever LCS Port Visit to Japan — The littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) arrived in Sasebo, Japan, March 18, marking the first time an LCS has visited Japan. The ship is in port to work with Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force counterparts and conduct routine maintenance.

USS New Orleans Conducts Sea Trials — The amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18) completed a five-day sea trials period March 13 following an eight-month planned maintenance availability period. During the underway period, New Orleans' crew members tested a number of shipboard systems including damage control systems, navigational equipment and the propulsion plant. Sea trials gave the ship's crew an opportunity to operate and test equipment as designed following a lengthy maintenance period.

Pearl Harbor Perspective on Women’s History — Rear Adm. Rick Williams talks about women who’ve played a crucial part in the history and heritage of the U.S. Navy and highlights this month’s Pearl Harbor tribute.

E-2D Hawkeye Maiden Deployment — The Tigertails of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 125 bring a new capability to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) as their new aircraft replaces the aging E-2C Hawkeye. This is the first time E-2D Hawkeyes will serve as the primary early-warning aircraft aboard a deployed aircraft carrier. The Northrop Grumman developed E-2D, based on the E-2C platform, features a new radar system, theater missile defense capabilities, multi-sensor integration and a tactical glass cockpit.
