Carter Announces Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal — Service members who serve or have served in Iraq or Syria as part of Operation Inherent Resolve will receive the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced in Tampa, Florida, March 30. Carter announced the new award during the U.S. Central Command change of command ceremony. Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III transferred the command's flag to Army Gen. Joe Votel.

Michelle Howard announced the 2015 Navy Shore Sailor of the Year during a ceremony at held the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., March 30. Howard announced Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jessica Wentlent of Naval Medical Center San Diego, as this year's winner.
Cold Front: Exploring Arctic Land and Sea at Navy ICEX — As the Navy's Ice Exercise 2016 winds to a close, officials at the Office of Naval Research reported new scientific research, March 30, that will enhance our understanding of, and ability to safely operate in Arctic maritime environments. ICEX, a biennial, multiweek exercise sponsored by the Navy's Arctic Submarine Laboratory, is designed to test submarine capabilities in the Arctic and provide a base camp for cooperative scientific research.
Remains Returned Home 75 Years Later — More than 74 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, USS Oklahoma Chief Metalsmith Duff Gordon's remains were returned to his hometown of Hudson, Wisconsin, March 29. The repatriation comes following advances in forensic sciences, which has progressed enough to finally identify Gordon, one of as many as 388 unknown Oklahoma Sailors buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Davidson Sworn in as Under Secretary of the Navy — Dr. Janine Davidson was sworn in as the 32nd under secretary of the Navy March 22. Davidson serves as the Navy's chief management officer and performs other duties assigned by the secretary of the Navy. A former Air Force pilot and Pentagon official, Davidson brings nearly 30 years of experience in military operations, national security policy and academic research to her new role.
Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System Pilot Class Graduates — The pilot class for the revised Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System recently graduated after completing a seven-week training course conducted by the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck. The pilot class students are the first to be trained on the fourth Generation Maintenance Group and some will be stationed in a ship that utilizes the new upgraded software.
