Federal Laboratory award recognizes SSC Pacific for Excellence in Technology Transfer
By Patric Petrie, SSC Pacific Public Affairs Office - June 8, 2016
SAN DIEGO — Engineers from the Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) were recognized with a 2016 Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer for their Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robotics (EODR) collaborations during the organization’s national meeting, April 27, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois.

Team members Michael Bruch, Gary Gilbreath, and See Yee of SSC Pacific, and industry partner Jorgen Pedersen of RE Squared (RE2), were honored for their transferred technologies of system architecture for interoperability and operator control capability for unmanned ground vehicles designated for explosive ordnance disposal duties.

The SSC Pacific and industry exchange succeeded due to the effective integration of the two partners' robotics expertise, and their willingness to achieve interoperability not only in robotics, but in the steps taken to transition the valuable technologies to industry and back to the military. The partnership offered a successful new approach for the acquisition of robotics technologies for both the Navy and Department of Defense.

Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific provides the U.S. Navy and military with essential capabilities in the areas of command and control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR). SSC Pacific provides the full spectrum of C4ISR capabilities from basic research and prototype development, to extensive test and evaluation services, through systems engineering and integration, to installation and life-cycle support of fielded systems. SSC Pacific is a recognized leader in the cyber domain and for autonomous unmanned systems, and is providing the technological and engineering support critical to ensuring the Navy’s information warfare superiority.
