Fort Meade, MD. – The Defense Information Systems Agency’s Forge.mil site was upgraded Monday with an additional suite of integrated collaboration tools to improve the user experience and drive access to DoD open source software.
DISA adopted CollabNet TeamForge for distributed application life-cycle management (ALM) as the core technology powering Forge.mil. CollabNet TeamForge 7.2 offers a Subversion upgrade and Adaptive Planning Boards that allow for the visualization of information through a web interface and numerous usability improvements to increase productivity.
“The Forge.mil Program Office has worked very hard over the past few months to improve performance and stability and maintain the security posture of the entire family of services all while working on a significant upgrade to the SoftwareForge and ProjectForge platform. The ability to provide users with requested system enhancements and new capabilities with this upgrade while maintaining a secure and stable system proves we are committed to being responsive to our users,” said Alfred Rivera, Director, Development and Business Center.
Additional features are planned for the coming months including the integration of Git, an open source tool and distributed version control system, and Gerrit, a web based code review system providing improved reports. Lifecycle metric charts are planned for release in early CY 2016.
“The integration of Git and Gerrit along with greater metrics reporting capabilities are features in high demand by the Forge.mil Community,” said Carey Burris, the Forge.mil Project Lead. “We expect the inclusion of these new tools within the next few months to increase the effectiveness and productivity of current project teams and encourage new project teams to adopt Forge.mil as their tool of choice for software development.”
Forge.mil is currently hosted on DISA milCloud. milCloud is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) that allows for robust self-service with on-demand, auto provisioning of Virtual Data Center (VDC) / Virtual Operating Environment (VOE) resources. milCloud leverages commercial technology to deliver a DoD private cloud for both unclassified and classified data. Adoption of Forge.mil continues to grow with 7,000 newly registered users in the past year.
The Forge.mil Community hosts more than 1,100 projects with more than 40,000 community members contributing over 15,000 software releases available for download.
