This memorandum builds upon the Department of the Navy Enterprise Architecture Strategy Memo that was released on Feb. 18, 2009. This memo is part of a series of policy documents that articulate the DON strategy for development, management and use of the DON EA. Operational Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) shall comprise Communities of Practice (COP) that will provide and validate operational content within DON Segment Reference Architectures. DON CIO, with collaboration from DON Deputy CIO (Navy) and DON Deputy CIO (USMC), shall identify the appropriate Operational SMEs. The development and governance of the DON Segment Reference Architectures (SRA) will require collaboration between the designated Service Architects and the respective COPs.
This memo states the required actions to develop and refine the processes associated with the COPs aligned to the SRAs, and the DON plans to pilot COP processes for Battlespace Awareness, Command and Control and Net-Centric SRAs between now and the end of FY2009.
