Deep Dive: ONR-Supported Research Combats Oxygen Toxicity in Navy Divers — For the first time, ketone esters-oral supplements useful in epilepsy treatment-are being studied to fight seizures caused by hyperbaric oxygen toxicity, a life-threatening byproduct of breathing too much oxygen that impacts deep-water divers. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is sponsoring this research.
America Modifications Increase Air Capabilities — The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) is the first West Coast ship to have its flight deck upgraded with a thermal spray coating in key landing areas in order to more fully support the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters (JSF) that will be attached to the ship during future operations.

Oceanographer of the Navy Celebrates 185th Naval Oceanography Birthday — The Office of the Oceanographer of the Navy celebrated the 185th anniversary of Naval Oceanography and the 50th anniversary the meteorology and oceanography (METOC) designator was implemented, Dec. 4, during an award ceremony held at the U.S. Naval Observatory.
SECNAV Visits USS Dwight D. Eisenhower — Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus visited Sailors aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike) as the ship continues its pre-deployment work-up cycle off the coast of Florida, Dec. 4. Mabus observed flight operations from the flight deck, ate lunch with junior Sailors on the mess decks and addressed the ship's crew at an all-hands call in the hangar bay. He reenlisted Sailors, presented awards and spoke about the importance of the Navy.
