Reading Room: Resources Organized Per Statute

The information below is provided to fulfill the requirements of Title 5, Section 552(a)(2) of the United States Code (i.e., Title 5, Section 552(a) is known as the Freedom of Information Act), as implemented by the Defense Freedom of Information Policy Office Memorandum, Requirements for Department of Defense Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Reading Rooms, October 11, 2007. Accordingly, the following information is provided, with each letter corresponding to the respective subsections of Title 5, Section 552(a)(2).

(A) Records – Final opinions and orders made in the adjudication of cases that may be cited, used, or relied upon as precedents in future adjudications: The Department of the Navy does not possess this type of record.

(B) Records – Statement of policy and interpretations that have been adopted by the agency and are not published in the Federal Register.

(C) Records – Administrative staff manuals and instructions, or portions thereof, that establish DoD policy or interpretations of policy that affect the public.

(D) Records – Records released to the public, under the FOIA, that are or will likely become the subject of subsequent request.
