TULSA, Okla. -- North Texas' second half comeback fell just short as the Mean Green lost 63-58 at Tulsa Saturday afternoon.

Behind a career-high game from Tosin Mabodu, North Texas (2-5, 0-0 C-USA) fought back from a 13-point halftime deficit to come within three points in the final minutes. 

"She made the most of her opportunity, " head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "I'm really proud of her. She stepped up and she earned her time." 

Mabodu, who hadn't played the last two games nor scored a single field goal all season finished Saturday with 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Mean Green. It's her first career double-double.

The Hurricane (3-5, 0-0 AAC) and North Texas were tied at the end of a low scoring first quarter but a 22-10 second quarter in favor of Tulsa pushed them out in front with a cushion. Mabodu was inserted for the foul troubled Micayla Buckner and Hannah Hopkins. Mabodu brought energy, effort and a high field goal percentage to help lead the comeback charge. She finished 7-of-8 from the field.

"They weren't boxing out so I attacked the lanes," Mabodu said. "I just wanted to make an impact, I wish it could have been enough to win." 

Foul trouble was a problem all game long for North Texas as they finished with 25, most coming in the first half. The Mean Green did force 27 turnovers, a season-high, and score 31 points off the bench also a season-high.

With Mabodu leading the charge, North Texas outscored Tulsa 39-32 in the second half off 14-of-29 shooting (48 percent).

"(Mabodu) stepped on the court today hungry, really looking to prove herself," Mitchell said. "And I think it got our team going."

But down the stretch, every time North Texas was within a possession of tying the game the Hurricane had an answer.

Tulsa entered Saturday's contest averaging 21 3-point attempts per game. They only put up 12 against the Mean Green, however, they made seven compared to North Texas' two. The Hurricane's Tatyana Perez's two late 3-pointers secured the win for Tulsa.

"There's a lot of positives to take from today," Mabodu said. "But we really need a win."

• With another 3-pointer, Candice Adams has made at least one in 32 of her last 36 games dating back to last season. She also now has 112 made 3-pointers for her career, which ties 2010 graduate Brittney James for fourth most in program history
• Candice Adams' 13 made 3-pointers on the season is one more than she had at this point last year when she finished the season with a career-high 49, which is the eighth most 3-pointers made in a single season in program history
• Candice Adams finished Saturday's contest with eight points. She now has 696 for her career and is two points shy of tying Sheila Stowe for 23rd most in program history and three points away from tying Sharon Shelton for 22nd most
• Tosin Mabodu's previous career-high in points was eight. Her previous career-high in rebounds was seven
• Sophomore Terriell Bradley had a career-high four steals Saturday
• North Texas made 14-of-15 free throws Saturday. The last time they shot over 90 percent from the free throw line in a game was at Marshall last season (17-of-18)
• For the fifth time in seven games this season, nine North Texas players recorded points in a single game. Last season the Mean Green only did that twice all season
• Terriell Bradley went 5-for-5 from the free throw line Saturday. She is now 28-for-34 (82 percent) on the season
