Hopkins Family Makes A Visit To University of North Texas

May 16, 2016

The North Texas basketball program and the Hopkins family have a long history.

Four Hopkins brothers wore the green and white for the Mean Green basketball team beginning with Bud (Herman) in the 1940's. Fred followed playing from 1953-57, Ballard from 1957-1961, and Wayne from 1960-1964.

Wayne’s wife, Sherry, thought it would be a great idea to gather the family and make a trip to their alma mater and share some Mean Green history with the younger members of the Hopkins family. Sherry along with her children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren surprised Wayne with a Saturday morning tour of the Super Pit and a visit to his brother, Fred‘s, hall of fame plaque on April 16th.

The Hopkins family also took the time to visit Apogee Stadium and the Spiriki Statue. Wayne, a former member of the Geezles and a contributor to the statue, posed for pictures with Spiriki and his family.
