North Texas Tennis Signs Highly Touted Athlete

DENTON, Texas (12/3/07) North Texas women's tennis head coach Sujay Lama added another powerful athlete to the team when Paula Dinuta signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the 200809 season.

 

Dinuta is an incoming freshman from Arges, Romania who has been ranked in the top 15 for Girls under 18 in Romania. She has played for her Club “Progresul Bucuresti,” which won the Romanian National Championships in 2007 and finished third at the European Championships. Dinuta will also be coming into the season ranked in the top 20 for the women's division in Romania.

 

"Paula is a phenomenal talent that will help elevate our tennis program," said Lama. "She is a powerful athlete with punishing groundstrokes. Her work ethic, intensity and mental toughness are as good as I have seen. We are very excited she has chosen North Texas."

 

Dinuta’s best win to date was at the 2007 European Club Championship in Rennes, France where she had a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Shika Uberoi, who is ranked No. 122, according to the Women's Tennis Accociation  .

 

"I am excited to be part of a tennis program that is on the rise," said Dinuta. "The coaching staff was the reason I chose North Texas. I believe they will help me develop my game and maximize my potential."

 

The Mean Green had its best fall season with three out of nine girls posting ten or more wins in singles. They also finished out the season with ten or more wins in doubles.

 

North Texas tennis team will start its next season on January 25, 2008 when the Mean Green takes on Stephen F. Austin at 3 p.m. in Nacogdoches, Texas
