Women's Tennis Dominates The North Texas Classic

DENTON, Texas (11/3/07) Mean Green’s Tennis played their toughest at the North Texas Classic where they had an overall record of 17-4 in singles and 8-4 in doubles.

 

Highlighted victories go to Madura Ranganathan, Catalina Cruz, Idalina Franca, Shannon MacKenzie, and Ashley Akin for singles where they were all winner of their flights. North Texas as a whole finished out the tournament with victories in 5 out of the 7 flights they played.


"We could not have asked for a better finish for the fall season. These women continue to impress me with their heart, determination and hunger to improve. We've just seen the tip of the iceberg. There is tremendous potential and growth for our team. We are very excited, encouraged and motivated with the success we have had so far. With hard work in the off season, we can attain all the goals we have set for the spring season," said head coach Sujay Lama.   

The doubles team of Ranganathan and Amy Joubert finished at the top of their flight with the team of Mackenzie and Akin who also finished at the top with a 3-0 record. The North Texas team as a whole won two of their four flights in the tournament with a record of 8-4.  

 

Women’s Tennis will start the spring season Friday, January 25 at Stephen F. Austin in Nacadogdoches, TX.
