Tennis Begins Play At USTA/ITA Texas Regional

DENTON, Texas (10/18/12) - North Texas tennis travels to Waco, Texas to play in the USTA/ITA Texas Regional on Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University. The five-day tournament runs through Tuesday and will feature 18 teams, 16 from the state of Texas.

"This is the premier event in the fall and we are very much looking forward to it. Our region is one of the toughest in the country and it is a great opportunity for our players make the most out of it," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Our preparation has been very good and that gives us the confidence to go out and give it all we have."

The Mean Green will compete against Baylor, Houston, Lamar, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UT Arlington, UTEP, UT-Pan American and UT-San Antonio. There will be one 128-player singles draw and one 64-team doubles draw.

The regional champion in both singles and doubles automatically qualifies for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., November 8-11.
