LUBBOCK, Texas (10/1/05) -- Not only did the six North Texas women’s tennis players competing at the Scarborough Specialties Open combine to post a 5-1 record on Saturday, the Mean Green’s Katherine Harris and Sammie Moreton each won their Flight-C semifinal match to set up a head-to-head meeting between the two teammates for the flight championship on Sunday.

Moreton, who received a first round bye, won her second straight match with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win over Texas State’s Sumarie Muller in the semifinals. Harris improved to 3-0 with a 7-6, 6-4 victory against Anne-Sophie Fankam of Texas Tech.

With a 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 win over Abilene Christian’s Holly Lindloff in the semifinals of the Flight A consolation bracket, freshman Lynley Wasson improved to 2-1 at the tournament and will play in the consolation bracket’s championship match on Sunday. Megan Schmulbach and Aziza Aba Butain both won their only match on Saturday in Flight B.

The three North Texas doubles teams combined to post a 3-3 record on Saturday. All three duo’s split a pair of matches on the day. Moreton and Schmulbach had the most success, advancing to the Flight Red semifinals before being knocked out of the bracket.

Competition at the Scarborough Specialties Open continues Sunday starting at 8 a.m. All six North Texas players will compete in at least one match on Sunday.
