INDIANAPOLIS (4/30/13) – The North Texas tennis team received a bid to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year and third time in four years, the NCAA selection committees announced on Tuesday. North Texas, who is the No. 3 seed, will take on No. 2 seed TCU on Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m. at Texas A&M’s Mitchell Tennis Center.

"The great thing is that our families, friends and fans can come and support us," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Also, it helps that we were there earlier this year for the ITA Kick-Off weekend." 

The Mean Green (18-5) won an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Championship final for its second consecutive title.

TCU earned a No. 2 seed after assembling a 17-6 record including a 6-3 record in Big 12 play. TCU is coming off a 4-2 loss to Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships.

This will be the second meeting for North Texas and TCU. TCU snapped North Texas’s six-game win streak at the beginning of the season with a 4-2 win in Denton on Feb. 27.

"We've had some great battles with TCU the last couple of years," Lama added. "They have a very talented squad coached by a hall of fame coach. We are excited about the opportunity to play them again. We will prepare the best we can to give ourselves a chance to be successful."

The winner will face the winner of host school Texas A&M and Southern in the second round. Texas A&M earned a No. 3 national seed with a 21-3 overall record and a 12-1 record in SEC competition. Southern earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament with its fourth consecutive SWAC Conference Championship.

The Mean Green will take on TCU in the first round on Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The second round will take place on Sunday, May 12, at 1 p.m.
