North Texas Falls To Troy In The SBC Tournament

Denton (4-20-07) The North Texas tennis team concluded their season today at the Waranch Tennis Complex during the Sun Belt Conference Tournament when they fell 4-0 to Troy.

“The team played well,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “They competed very well. It was an emotional day for us. Today was Megan’s last match and it was tough because she’s given so much to us this year. I’m taking a lot of pride out of this group. I’ve learned as much as I hope they’ve learned from us. This is a team I’ll always remember. They have definitely put their stamp in our program and where it’s going to go in years to come.”

Troy snagged the doubles point in the first two events of the match.

In No. 1 doubles play, Megan Schmulbach, the team’s only senior, teamed up with Aziza Aba Butain to play a tough match against Bares and El Sisi of Troy. They were ultimately defeated 8-4.

Mary Poe and Hollie Caras fought hard at No. 2 doubles but fell 8-3 to Strauss and Vieria.

In singles play North Texas was defeated at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 leaving the last three unfinished.
