LAS COLINAS, Texas (3/1/09) - Despite the Mean Green's Madura Ranganathan upsetting FlU's nationally-ranked Mariana Muci, the Golden Panthers tennis team was able to get two more wins for a 4-2 victory in Las Colinas on Sunday. The match was moved from Denton to NT's indoor facility at the Las Colinas Country Club due to weather conditions.

"We are disappointed with the outcome today," said North Texas head coach Sujay Lama. "I really wanted us to get to doubles, but give them (FIU) credit for closing the deal. It was a valiant effort by our team and we can learn from this. Hopefully the two close matches this weekend will pay off for us down the road."

There was no doubles action today as the two teams from the Sun Belt just played singles matches.

From the No. 2 position, NT's Madura Ranganathan upset the No. 58 player in the country, Mariana Muci of FIU. Madura won the first and third sets to get the win 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. This was the first victory for a Mean Green player over a nationally-ranked player this year.

Paula Dinuta looked sharp against Maria Pazo winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 at the four spot and FIU's Liset Brito (101st in the country) defeated Irina Paraschiv 6-1, 6-4 from the No. 1 position.

The Golden Panthers improved to 6-5 after the win over the Mean Green. FIU was coming off losses to Texas on Friday and Tulsa on Saturday.

North Texas tennis (7-5, 2-1) stays at home next weekend to take on the UTEP Miners on Saturday, March 7 at 12 P.M. As of now the match is set to be played in Denton at the Waranch Tennis Center.
