DENTON (2/27/05) -- The North Texas women’s tennis team (7-4) suffered consecutive setbacks for the first time this season on Sunday, falling 7-0 to No. 62 Florida International (5-3) and 6-1 against NCAA-II No. 11 Abilene Christian (7-1) at Goldfied Tennis Center.

The Mean Green entered Sunday’s play with a 4-0 home record and riding a two-match winning streak. Florida International was the first Sun Belt Conference opponent North Texas has faced this season, but both the Golden Panthers and ACU were among the four nationally-ranked opponents the Mean Green has played this year.

North Texas lost the doubles point in both matches, marking just the second and third time in 11 matches that it has dropped the point. Holly Lee and Kelli Royer claimed the Mean Green’s only doubles win against the Golden Panthers with an 8-2 victory in the second flight, while Katherine Harris and Krysta Lee teamed up to win flight one against the Wildcats and run their record to 8-3 in spring play.

Between FIU and ACU, North Texas played four nationally-ranked players in singles action. While NT took a combined four matches to three sets and played 21 sets that were decided no more than three points, it was able to come away with just one victory. Ashley Sammis defeated ACU’s Lana Pavlin (7-5, 6-4) in flight five to claim the Mean Green’s only win. Sammis picked up her 10th victory of the season, making her the sixth NT player to reach double figures in the win column.

North Texas is set to start a five-match road swing on March 4 against Arkansas-Little Rock at 1 p.m. The Mean Green will play its second straight Sun Belt match the following day against Arkansas State at 12 p.m.
