LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (2/21/09) - The No. 73 Louisville Cardinals showed their national ranking as they had too much for the North Texas tennis team in a 6-1 decision on Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

In the first ever meeting between the two schools, the Cardinals won five out of six matches in singles and pulled out a critical doubles match to win the doubles point

"This was a tough day for us," said Mean Green head coach Sujay Lama. "The team struggled after losing that doubles match and just couldn't get it going after that. I thought we battled hard at the end though. We need to get this one behind us quickly and play our game against Middle Tennessee tomorrow."

North Texas' Catalina Cruz and Narine Kazarova were up 7-6 in doubles with three match points. But, Louisville's Lindsey Jones and Jo-Ann Van Aerde found a way to win 9-7. The momentum was definitely in the Cardinals favor after that.

The Mean Green pairing of Rachel Wilhelm and Amy Joubert took their match 8-5 over Sarah Miller and Amelia Harris. The No. 1 team of Irina Paraschiv and Madura Ranganathan lost an 8-4 match to Bianca Gorbea and Natalia Baez.

Paraschiv got the only singles victory for NT with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8) decision over Lindsey Jones. Paula Dinuta lost a tough two-set match to Lauren Imre 2-6, 6-7 (5) and so did Amy Joubert to Sarah Miller 2-6, 5-7.

The Mean Green squares off against Middle Tennessee in a Sun Belt match tomorrow at 11 A.M. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, KY. The Blue Raiders are 4-2 all-time against the Mean Green.
