DENTON, Tex. (1/31/03) - The North Texas women's tennis team defeated Sam Houston State 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in its first match of the 2004 season.

North Texas won two of three doubles flights to jump ahead 1-0 before capturing four wins in singles action. The Mean Green's Krysta Lee won the top singles flight (6-4, 7-6 (7-3)) against Monnia Hassib, while Ashley Sammis, Katherine Harris, Megan Schmulbach and Ingrid Stockinger also picked up straight set victories.

In doubles play, Kelli Royer and Sammis teamed up for a flight two win. Schmulbach and Holly Lee claimed a flight three win.

North Texas will host Texas Tech on Sunday.
