FORT MYERS, Fla. - North Texas tennis finished the second day of the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational on Sunday with Franziska Sprinkmeyer advancing to the finals of flight seven singles.  

Sprinkmeyer, a freshman who handled her first round match in straight sets Saturday, cruised through Iowa State's Emma Waites in commanding fashion 6-2, 6-2.

"We showed signs of improvement today, but still have a way to go before we are playing to our potential," said associate head coach Jeff Maren.

The Mean Green started the day on a better note Sunday, winning three of the four doubles matches.

Senior Irina Paraschiv and freshman Kseniya Bardabush responded well to a tough loss Saturday with an 8-2 victory over host Florida Gulf Coast's Mandic and Betchel. The win marks the first win of the season for Paraschiv who is appearing in her first tournament.

Juniors Ilona Serchenko and Barbora Vykydalova joined Sprinkmeyer in the win column in singles play.

Serchenko shot down Sun Belt Conference opponent Natasha Phillips of Florida Atlantic in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 while Vykydalova defeated Amy Williams of Northwestern State 6-4, 6-3.  Both Serchenko and Vykydalova advanced to the consolation finals in their respective flights.

The tournament season will come to an end for the Mean Green on Monday, with the final day of the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
