Golden Hurricane Too Much For Mean Green

DENTON, Texas - North Texas tennis fell to the No. 30 Tulsa Golden Hurricane 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

Junior Irina Paraschiv once again won both of her matches and expanded her overall record to 6-1 in the last four matches.

"We were very proud of Irina's performance today," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "She is playing great tennis but what impresses us most is her poise and determination. Her results are a reflection of the hard work she is putting in practice and conditioning.  She has stepped up as the leader in this team."

Paraschiv and Vykydalova ran through the Hurricane doubles team of Kitchoutkin and Karaitianna winning 8-3, while the other members of the Mean Green fell to drop the doubles point.

Senior Madura Ranganathan was a member of one of the North Texas duo's to fall, marking her first competitive math in almost a month due to sickness.

"It was great to have Madura and Paula back," Maren added. "They were a little rusty but battled hard and are getting stronger physically every day. Just the fact that we were able to have every one for the first time in five weeks was a huge boost for our team. "

Paraschiv took down Tulsa's Alexandra Kitchoutkin in a three set struggle. The first set went North Texas' way, and Paraschiv gutted out the third set for a 7-6, 2-6, 10-8 win.

The Mean Green will be back in action Wednesday afternoon when Xavier makes a visit to the Waranch Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
