Mean Green Tennis Heads To LA For ITA Kick-Off Weekend

Jan. 23, 2014

LOS ANGELES - The North Texas tennis team travels to Los Angeles for the sixth annual ITA Kick-Off weekend where the Mean Green will compete against 64 teams for a spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

North Texas will open against No.6 USC Friday at 1p.m. Going against a top-ten team will give the young team an opportunity to compete against the best in the nation.

“This is such a prestigious event and we are one of only 64 teams to qualify,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “To be part of the indoor national championship draw for the third time in four years shows the consistency of the growth of our program.”

USC is hosting the weekend one of 30 events around the nation, due to its national ranking at the end of the 2013 season. North Texas is the fourth seed in the USC-hosted event and they will take on No.37 Saint Mary’s or No.58 University of Utah in the consolation final Sat. Jan. 25 at 2p.m. or the championship final at 5 p.m.

“USC is one of the premier tennis teams in the country, and it will definitely be a great experience for our team. Our focus is solely on competing hard, developing our game and exposing ourselves to the highest level of competition. This opportunity will make us that much stronger down the road,” Lama said.
